I’m still thinking about my top albums of 2011 and I feel at war with my number 1. I know that at the end it will probably be Strange Mercy. From the moment I heard it was going to be released started an everlasting period of impatience til the release date. It’s clear that St. Vincent is my favorite female musician. There’s not this, “well, eehhh…” And there will never be. She’s fascinating, intelligent, beautiful, talented as fuck, and so amazing in every way. She’s one of a kind with her music. SM makes me think… every time I hear it, without failure, “Fuck, thanks for blessing this sound to my ears.” It’s ugly but gorgeous at the same time. Fucking gorgeous. It’s terrifying how unbelievable it sounds. Especially live. FUCK.

Bon Iver. I was one of those people that got really attached to For Emma… and it was kind of a battle getting into Bon Iver, Bon Iver and maybe that’s the only thing that really sets it off as my #2. While I easily fell in love with SM, getting into Bon Iver’s album was not as easy. Not because it wasn’t good. It was just something completely different. I let myself accept it for what it was and slowly I fell in love with it. Completely and irrevocably. It’s enigmatic, but every layer is more beautiful than the one before. JVern’s voice is almost sending me off into an overwhelmingly painful, exquisite dimension. His high notes, his low. I’m sitting here right now listening to this album and from start to finish: a complete masterpiece.
